Stabat Mater
A rare gem of the baroque repertoire, Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater has never been staged up to this day. La Phenomena and La Tempête join forces to explore this extraordinary composition for ten voices through a form of musical theatre. The scene of the mother facing the cross becomes the starting point for a wild venture: Maëlle Dequiedt takes us on an iconoclastic and transgressive journey through the centuries. Bringing together on stage four actors and ten singers-instrumentalists, she digs into the strata laid down by the time to reveal the theatrical power of the work. Simon-Pierre Bestion freely adapted Scarlatti’s score in order to release the energies contained in the music. Combining instruments of very different origins and periods, makes this Stabat Mater a sensory and sensitive experience.
